School of St Jude, Tanzania

The School of St Jude is a pioneering leader in charitable education within Africa. Founder, Gemma Sisia, opened the school in 2002 with a big dream to bring the opportunity of free, quality education to children living in poverty. The mission remains the same today.

The Rotary Club of Erina has been involved with the school since its inception. Club members heard Gemma Sisia speak at a Rotary conference in Tamworth – telling the crowd of her dream to start the school. Since then Erina Rotarians have been involved in hands-on work at the school (being just the second Rotary Club to help with building work), as well as child sponsorship and teacher sponsorship.

Gemma Sisia’s story truly represents what the drive and determination of one person can achieve.
